Shopping at Montreal’s Fine Arts Museum Shop

“M Boutique,”  an online shop from the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts, “offers wide a selection of original gift ideas from many different countries, at prices for every budget. There are beautiful items for your home, as well as sculptures, textiles, jewellery and contemporary creations.  Many of these pieces come from Africa, Asia and South America, and echo the diversity of the Museum’s collection or the exhibitions on display. M Boutique features objects with a clear connection to art and design, with particular emphasis on the creations of Quebec artists and artisans.”

We liked the earrings trio in sterling and enamel, the Jon Klar bracelets and the red and blue Cré-Art necklaces. The Mondrian tray and boxes are inspired by a work by the artist.  The stained glass panel after Vincent Van Gogh’s Houses at Auvers is  suitable for standing on an easel or for hanging and an articulated wood horse as a gift for a horse enthusiast. Picasso cups and saucers are a unique gift as is the book, Napoleon: Compilation of Historical Documents, written by British historian Richard Holmes and  containing over forty facsimiles of archival documents, coded messages and proclamations written by the Emperor.  The book includes over 250 reproductions: paintings, prints and illustrations, as well as nineteen maps of battles and military campaigns. There’s also a 2010 Christmas card leaflet to be consulted and a section that features books and objects about Canada and its great artists from yesterday to today. For instance, France Fauteux’s birds are created and produced in her Quebec City studio, using cream-coloured earthenware of her own making. Don’t overlook the children’s section, especially for French-language books and games
