DIY Kits for Gifts

We had been to the Alabama Chanin website before but not noticed their DIY kits. Considering the cost of gifts nowadays and the number of people we know who are expert needle wielders and crafts people, we thought that their Alabama Studio Style DIY kits seem like practical and welcome gifts.

The DIY Medallion Boudoir Pillow (normally a $79.95 item) costs $23.95.  100% organic cotton with our faded leaves fabric in backstitch reverse applique. Instructions available in Alabama Studio Style. Kit comes stenciled, ready to sew and in your choice of fabric colors. Add your own pillow form.

The Applique Tank Dress, usually $289.95, is another $23.95 kit, in an 100% organic cotton jersey. Instructions available in Alabama Studio Style. Fabric is hand-painted in our Angie’s Fall Placement Stencil and ships ready-to-sew with all materials. Choose from our range of fabric options.

The Bloomers Swing Skirt which as a finished article of clothing is for purchase at $139.95, comes in a kit for, yes, $23.95.  It’s  an reverse applique swing skirt made from 100% organic cotton  with instructions from Alabama Stitch Book. Kit comes stenciled and ready-to-sew with all notions for this project. Choose from a range of colorways.

And consider such additions as the beads that are offered, liked the red chop beads:  Glass chop beads measure 1/16″, are packaged at 3oz. and contain approximately 5,175 pieces. Made in the Czech Republic. $4.95

For other craft kits, there’s one from the people who bring us Maker’s Faire, Maker Shed: Needlefelt Animals such as a panda.  Or for a nostalgic gift of a hand-smocked garment crafted from a kit from  The Old Fashioned Baby,  view a Baby Layette Blue Tucked Daygown and Cross Bonnet Kit. There’s always the popular craft of soapmaking, as the Ponte Vedra Soap kit attests to.

As to knitters, we’ve chosen Hanne Falkenberg, who has been doing kits for years as has Kaffe Fassett and Rowan … but they’re hard to find, and ‘dear’ when you do.
